Colorado Plein Air painter Dan Young recently approached Elyse Hutchinson Design for a new look for his online portfolio. After having the same design since the website’s inception, Dan was ready for a fresh, new look that better reflected his distinctive style.

Though Dan is a landscape painter, he likes introducing hints of man’s presence in the landscape.

“Sometimes I feel I’m in a race to paint a disappearing way of life. It’s hard to watch so many of the family farms and ranches being swallowed up by development.”

Young clings strongly to the importance of painting from life. He feels painting from life was the most important stepping stone for his career. Most days you can find him painting along a backroad or beside a mountain lake.

Along with pictures of the fun items shoppers can expect to find in the shop, the site features bios of the 3 owners and an interactive map by Google.

Commuter Challenge-2011 Pilot

CLEER in conjuntion with CDOT are sponsoring the Garfield Clean Energy Commuter Challenge this October. Elyse Hutchinson Design was contacted to design a set of posters for the pilot project. The art is fun and is intended to generate excitement for the program with kids and adults alike.

After hours of staring at my computer monitor, my eyes start to bug out and I have to step away. I suppose I could do laundry or bake banana bread, but lately I have been fascinated with the possibilities of upcycling. I lie awake at night dreaming up things to do with  stuff that would otherwise go into the trash. I suppose this has been a lifetime obsession – I remember making furniture for my dollhouse out of egg cartons and sewing tiny pillows out of an old sock.

Recently I started making tiny notebooks out of used gift cards. That evolved into Jewelry. Who knows what comes next? My craft table is covered in notebooks and scraps of plastic. I’d love your feedback and ideas for new items!

Have you ever walked through an old cemetery and wondered about the people buried there? New Castle’s Highland Cemetery has been the final resting place of many since 1888. Included in its residents are town founders, gunfighters, miners lost in the Vulcan Mine explosion, and many many others.

This year during Burning Mountain Festival you have the unique opportunity to meet with the spirits of Highland Cemetery. In cooperation with the historical society, an educational walking tour is going to be offered Sept. 9th at 9:00pm. Various spirits of New Castle’s past will be telling you about their lives.

Money raised will go toward building a Veterans’ Memorial at Highland Cemetery. Tickets are $5 and are available at many businesses in New Castle, including Patti’s Main Street Coffee House, Spirits of New Castle, Sassy Cuts, Making New Waves and Alpine Bank.

Elk Creek Mining Company Bar & Grill has added a new pasta dish to its offerings. Aptly named “Hell’s Revenge Pasta” the ingredients include fettuccine, alfredo sauce, grilled chicken, fresh jalapeños, ghost sauce, cayenne pepper and ground habanero. Restaurant owner John Webber warns: For serious hot food lovers only!

Webber partnered with Elyse Hutchinson Design to create awarness for the new dish by creating a logo, mailer and email newsletter.  Why try to beat the heat this summer when you can eat it!
