Have you ever walked through an old cemetery and wondered about the people buried there? New Castle’s Highland Cemetery has been the final resting place of many since 1888. Included in its residents are town founders, gunfighters, miners lost in the Vulcan Mine explosion, and many many others.
This year during Burning Mountain Festival you have the unique opportunity to meet with the spirits of Highland Cemetery. In cooperation with the historical society, an educational walking tour is going to be offered Sept. 9th at 9:00pm. Money raised will go toward building a Veterans’ Memorial at Highland Cemetery. Tickets are $5 and are available at many businesses in New Castle, including Patti’s Main Street Coffee House, Spirits of New Castle, Sassy Cuts, Making New Waves and Alpine Bank.
